Private Broom Making Classes
From mid January to end of March each year, I am happy to accommodate private broom making classes in my home studio. Each session will be approximately 3 hours in duration.
Your introductory class includes learning about the history of broom craft in North America, the tools and materials used, and then students will craft their first brooms; a set of kitchen tools and a triple style hand broom.
From there students can take further classes to learn how to make other hand brooms- turkey wing, hens wing style, hawks tail. Then with further training we can move onto more complex designs; woven top round whisks, which we can stitch flat, rooster tail woven whisks
Learning these styles will allow a student to progress further into making larger pieces; a cobweb broom, a cottage sweeper, onto a farmhouse sweeper, then a hearth broom with a woven cap, and then finally a full sized house broom with a woven cap.
Classes include all materials, and tools necessary for the courses, and all students can take their projects home at the end of each session.
As these classes will take place in my private home studio, space is limited to a max of three people for the hand broom classes, and only one person at a time for the longer brooms. The space is very limited.
HAND BROOMS: $100 (no tax) per person, per course.
HANDLED BROOMS: $130 (no tax) per person, per course (prior experience making hand brooms is a prerequisite).
PREPAYMENT: is required for each course, and in the event of cancellation, a credit memo will be issued, which you to be able to use for another date.
DATES: classes will be held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and weekend afternoons (where available).
