This has got to be my most favourite Genmaicha that I have ever had and I am so happy to be able to share it with you. I was first introduced to this exact beautiful Japanese green tea in late January 2015 at the Toronto Tea Festival. If you have eaten at Japanese restaurants and ordered a cup of tea, this one is a large step above what you likely had while enjoying your meal!

Genmaicha traditionally is made up of beautiful green sencha tea leaves and unpolished, roasted brown rice. Due to the roasting process, some of the grains of rice puff up like popcorn, which is also why Genmaicha has also been called popcorn tea (but it tastes nothing like popcorn). The name when translated is is genmai = roasted brown rice and cha = tea. Genmaicha is also called the peoples tea in Japan and is drank as a regular daily beverage.

What makes the tea that you see here unique, and in my opinion even more delicious, is the addition of matcha (special ground sencha leaves) and kuromame (black soybean).
