Introduction to Broomcraft, Nelles Manor, Grimsby, Ont

August 15 @ 1:00 pm 5:00 pm

I am excited to share the beautiful art of Broomcraft at this beautiful historic site in Grimsby. It will be a lovely afternoon making brooms together on the grounds.

In this three hour class you will learn how to craft your own simple but powerful kitchen tools (a pot scrubber, root vegetable scrubber and a cake/baking tester, and a counter whisk), and 18-20” triple style hand broom. These hand brooms are big enough to be used for a hearth broom around a fireplace or kept in the kitchen to sweep up small messes, or whatever you wish to use it for.

You will, while crafting your brooms, learn some of the history behind the designs, and the uses of these versatile tools. You also can add charms or crystals to your brooms, Amy will have some on hand, but bring along your own, and we will see if we can make them fit. By the end of the course, you will walk away with a basic understanding of simple broom making as well as 5, made by YOU brooms.

PLEASE NOTE: Broom making is a deceptively physical activity. You should be able to work from a seated position for more than an hour at a time, and be comfortable using your upper body, core abdominal muscles, arms, hands and wrists to perform repetitive tasks while winding and weaving parts of the brooms.
