Broom making is for the birds…Kwartzlab Makerspace, Kitchener
January 4, 2026 @ 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Broom making is for the birds . . . Well, not exactly.
In this class we will start you off making a pair of kitchen tools, a cake/baking tester, and a pot scrubber to get you used to the tools and materials we use in broomcraft. After that we will make a turkey wing and hawks tail hand broom. You will hand craft these beautiful, functional brooms while learning some of the history behind the designs, the materials, and the uses of these versatile and essential tools.
If there’s time, we will be able to make more than one of each style of hand broom. By the end of the afternoon, you will go home with 4 (at least one of each style), made by you, hand-brooms.
Space is limited to 10 people. Cost is $100 per person and is for adults only.
Your class fee includes all the supplies needed for the course. Please note that this will be a physical activity, which will use core abdominal muscles, and upper body strength, so dress in comfortable clothing (like leggings, jeans or yoga pants), as well as wear soft soled shoes or be prepared to work barefoot. Amy will have some charms and other items you can use to decorate your brooms if you would like, but if you have something specific, bring it along and we can see if it can be added into your brooms.
