SUMMARY:Hand and Hearth Broomcrafting at the Cordwood Studio
DESCRIPTION:In this 2-day course you will learn how to craft your own hand and hearth brooms. You will leave with 10-12 fully functional handmade brooms. \n\n\n\nDay One – Hand brooms (4-16” in length\, per broom) \n\n\n\nWe will start by learning some basic broom making techniques while making 4 practical\, kitchen tools – a cake tester\, a pot scrubber\, a vegetable scrubber and a small counter whisk. We will then move onto the following: a plain\, round whisk (a woven top will be added on the second day); a triple whisk; a turkey wing whisk; a hawks tail whisk; a hens wing whisk; and finally\, if time allows\, a plaited rooster tail whisk. \n\n\n\nDay Two – Hearth brooms (2-4 feet in length\, per broom) \n\n\n\nWe will begin the day by completing both the counter whisk\, with stitching\, and the round whisk\, with a woven top and stitching. Well\, not exactly. \n\n\n\nIn this class you will learn how to craft your own 12-16” Turkey Wing hand broom as well as you will also make a 12-16“ Hawks Tail hand broom. You will hand craft these beautiful\, functional brooms while learning some of the history behind the designs\, the materials\, and the uses of these versatile and essential tools.  \n\n\n\nIf there’s time\, we will be able to make more than one of each style of hand broom. By the end of the afternoon\, you will go home with 2 (at least one of each style)\, made by you\, hand-brooms. \n\n\n\n** this class is best for those who have already taken an introductory brooms class with me. If you haven’t taken a broom class before\, please get in touch as the skills are a bit of a learning curve. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited to 10 people. Your investment is $100. \n\n\n\nYour class fee includes all the supplies needed for the course. Please note that this will be a physical activity\, which will use core abdominal muscles\, and upper body strength\, so dress in comfortable clothing (like leggings\, jeans or yoga pants)\, as well as wear soft soled shoes or be prepared to work barefoot. DESCRIPTION:Vernal Equinox\, Springtide\, Spring\, Eoster\, Ostara marks a turning of the season from winter to spring. It is a Pagan festival that marks the beginning of Spring and the fertility of the land\, and the abundance bursting forth. Spring cleaning is a ritual deeply rooted in the lore of the Vernal Equinox\, a time to purify the home of stagnant energies and prepare it for the vitalizing energy of spring and summer. \n\n\n\nBrooms of course have been connected to the home since humans began to clean and clear their abodes. There are deities connected to them across very nearly all cultures. The making of brooms\, and besoms\, whisks and switches\, have been ingrained into our history here on Turtle Island since the moment our ancestors stepped foot on its soil. Brooms are used in many branches of witchcraft and paganism\, and in Spring Cleaning magick\, they are an essential tool! \n\n\n\nCord\, many colours to choose from\, for winding and weaving your broom. \n\n\n\nIn this hands on crafting workshop\, over 3 hours\, you will learn the art of making a set of 4 kitchen tools (cake tester\, pot scrubber\, counter whisk and a root veggie scrubber) and a Hawks Tail Hand broom. You will also learn how to consecrate it\, and then we will discuss the ways it can be used for house magicks with a focus on the Spring Equinox. \n\n\n\nAll supplies are included for you to craft your broom: \n\n\n\nYou will need to bring a notebook and pen to take any additional notes while we discuss the magickal aspects of the class\, however notes will be sent via email after the class to all participants. \n\n\n\nBroomcorn \n\n\n\nA satin spar bar to add to your hand broom \n\n\n\nSome charms\, (please bring your own charms\, talismans and/or crystals to add.
