SUMMARY:Broom Making at Golden Gatherings
DESCRIPTION:Amy Lou Taylor\, Broomsquire\, is your instructor for the course. She comes from a background where she was taught to make her own tools\, or at the very least engage with tool makers who are experienced in their craft. She’s been making brooms since the late 90s but has been back to making brooms steadily for the last 5+ years. \n\n\n\nWhen we craft our own tools\, we can imbue them with our intention\, our purpose and our needs. A hand broom for example\, is a tool that is used in several different ways\, from cleaning up crumbs\, dust\, shavings etc. to moving energy\, smoke\, air. \n\n\n\nIn this three hour class you will learn how to craft your own simple but powerful kitchen tools (a pot scrubber\, root vegetable scrubber and a cake/baking tester)\, and 18-20” triple style hand broom. These hand brooms are big enough to be used for a hearth broom around a fireplace\, or kept in the kitchen to sweep up small messes\, or whatever you wish to use it for. \n\n\n\nYou will\, while crafting your brooms\, learn some of the history behind the designs\, and the uses of these versatile tools. You also can add charms or crystals to your brooms\, Amy will have some on hand\, but bring along your own\, and we will see if we can make them fit. By the end of the course\, you will walk away with a basic understanding of simple broom making as well as 4\, made by YOU brooms. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited to 8 people. Your investment is $125+HST \n\n\n\nYour class fee includes all the supplies needed for the course. Please note that this will be a physical activity using your upper body\, arms and core muscles and feet\, so dress in comfortable clothing (like leggings\, jeans or yoga pants)\, as well as wear soft soled shoes or be prepared to work barefoot. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpread the word!\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky

Additionally you will make a set of four Kitchen Tools (cake tester\, pot scrubber\, root veggie scrubber and a counter whisk). We will speak about some of the history behind the designs\, and the uses of these versatile tools. She is also a Certified Tea Sommelier\, full time Broomsquire (maker of brooms)\, horticulturist\, organic gardener\, community herbalist\, Hedgewitch\, Gardnerian HPS (Retired)\, author and artist. \n\n\n\nShe facilitates many programs about Tea and Brooms\, some of which she has been teaching for over 20 years. Amy has always been an artist who chooses to create with things found in nature\, but when her father passed in 2012\, she lost her muse. In late 2020\, after rediscovering a 20lb box of broom corn in her basement\, Amy rekindled her love and passion for creating with natural material by making brooms again. She crafts her brooms entirely by hand\, and only uses an electric drill for drilling holes in wood. \n\n\n\nwww.taotat.caIG: @taotatFB: @taotat1THREADS: @taotat \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nSpread the word!\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky

SUMMARY:Vinyard Cobweb Broom Workshop - Lincoln Museum
DESCRIPTION:Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre \n\n\n\n\n\nDiscover the beauty of craftsmanship rooted in Niagara’s wine history. In this hands-on workshop\, broom squire Amy Lou Taylor will guide participants in creating a traditional cobweb broom using materials sourced from old vine plantings. \n\n\n\nIn viticulture\, “old vines” refer to mature grapevines—often several decades old—that are prized for their depth\, resilience and character. As part of our ongoing exploration of Niagara’s rich wine heritage\, this workshop gives new life to vineyard cuttings\, transforming them into functional art. \n\n\n\nParticipants will learn traditional broom-making techniques and leave with a one-of-a-kind broom shaped by the legacy of the vine. \n\n\n\nNo experience necessary. All supplies are included for you to craft your broom including a piece of historic grapevine from Vineland Estates for your handle.

SUMMARY:Hand and Hearth Broomcrafting at the Cordwood Studio
DESCRIPTION:In this 2-day course you will learn how to craft your own hand and hearth brooms. You will leave with 10-12 fully functional handmade brooms. \n\n\n\nDay One – Hand brooms (4-16” in length\, per broom) \n\n\n\nWe will start by learning some basic broom making techniques while making 4 practical\, kitchen tools – a cake tester\, a pot scrubber\, a vegetable scrubber and a small counter whisk. We will then move onto the following: a plain\, round whisk (a woven top will be added on the second day); a triple whisk; a turkey wing whisk; a hawks tail whisk; a hens wing whisk; and finally\, if time allows\, a plaited rooster tail whisk. \n\n\n\nDay Two – Hearth brooms (2-4 feet in length\, per broom) \n\n\n\nWe will begin the day by completing both the counter whisk\, with stitching\, and the round whisk\, with a woven top and stitching. In the afternoon we will make at least two types of hearth brooms on broomsticks – one stitched round and the second one stitched flat\, with or without woven caps. This same class MAY also be available for August 29 – 30\, if there is sufficient interest.

SUMMARY:Spring Broom Class at Kwartzlab
DESCRIPTION:Broom making is for the birds . . . Well\, not exactly. \n\n\n\nIn this class you will learn how to craft your own 12-16” Turkey Wing hand broom as well as you will also make a 12-16“ Hawks Tail hand broom. You will hand craft these beautiful\, functional brooms while learning some of the history behind the designs\, the materials\, and the uses of these versatile and essential tools.  \n\n\n\nIf there’s time\, we will be able to make more than one of each style of hand broom. By the end of the afternoon\, you will go home with 2 (at least one of each style)\, made by you\, hand-brooms. \n\n\n\n** this class is best for those who have already taken an introductory brooms class with me. If you haven’t taken a broom class before\, please get in touch as the skills are a bit of a learning curve. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited to 10 people. Your investment is $100. \n\n\n\nYour class fee includes all the supplies needed for the course. Please note that this will be a physical activity\, which will use core abdominal muscles\, and upper body strength\, so dress in comfortable clothing (like leggings\, jeans or yoga pants)\, as well as wear soft soled shoes or be prepared to work barefoot. Amy will have some charms and other items you can use to decorate your brooms if you would like\, but if you have something specific\, bring it along and we can see if it can be added into your brooms.
